Meet the bug whcih seem to be made of pure silver!

You’ve probably met thousands of bugs and insects around. But have you encountered a creature that seems to be made of silver and resembles the look of shiny metal?

Plus, I'll tell you why people use them as jewelry. So let's meet the silver beetle!

A QUITE RARE SIGHT OF THE SILVER BEETLE

There was a good day in Costa Rica, a farmer named Michael was doing his work in his garden when a twinkling thing caught his sight. The tiny thing, sparkling like a tiny star at the night during the day.

What was that?  He realized that it was a tiny creature when he saw it move slowly, slowly like a graceful beetle. According to him, “that was one of the most beautiful things he has ever seen”.

SOMETHING ABOUT THE BEETLE

Also called jewel beetles, these pretty insects belong to a diverse group of beetles called scarabs, so rhinoceros and dung beetles are their cool close cousins!

Actually, they are not one certain species, this is an ability found only in their group, an example is the silver tortoise beetle.

Unlike their larger relatives, they are too small in size. They are herbivores and feed on plants' sap and algae as well as sweet nectar.

They have become endangered due to habitat loss and can rarely be seen.

THEY CAN CHANGE COLOR

Not on their own as a chameleon, but reflect the light inflicted on their shells. According to researchers, these beetles absorb certain light waves and reflect the other waves which as a result appear to be a pleasant-looking color combination.

When you see them from one angle, their color would be different as compared to another angle, it is like when you see a 3d picture from different sides and it changes its angle.

Its so-called brother is a gold beetle that seems to be made of pure gold! These beetles too reflect the various light waves and resemble a goldish look.

THESE ARE THE ONLY ANIMAL TO DO THIS

Yes, they are the only animals on earth, live or dead, to be equipped with this capability. But how long? Have you seen an animal doing this? ( tell me in the comments box)

THIS HELPS THEM TO CAMOUFLAGE

This gifted adeptness helps them to hide from predators, but how can they hide as their shine catches the eyes of animals from distances?

Actually, they bear a likely resemblance to wet leaves. You’ve seen them shining in the sunlight and enlightening your eyes.

The same they do in their rainforest habitats, thanks to their size, they fool animals by pretending to be water drops on wet leaves.

THEY ARE USED AS JEWELRY

Because of their pleasant appearance and marvelous look, they are highly valuable and can be sold at high prices.

Native people even use them as jewels and exchange them for valuable goods. Not only the silver beetle but their stunning jewel-like family members too.

#Q: CAN I FIND IT IN MY BACKYARD?

The members of the scarab group can be found everywhere in places like your backyard soil, trees, and even ponds.

But, unfortunately, you have to travel to the tropical forests of Costa Rica to meet the silver and gold beetle bugs because of their limited populations.

CONCLUSION:

Reaching this point, you’ve proved your interest in wildlife and nature, anyway, you read in this article about how these beetles seem to emit light from their shell and how they fool predators.
